May we individually and collectively be ever self-reliant. This is our heritage and our obligation. The Lord has urged that his people save for the rainy days, prepare for the difficult time, and put away for emergencies, [3 months] supply or more of bare necessities so that when the flood, the earthquake, the famine, the hurricane, the storms of life, our families can be sustained through the dark days." - President Spencer W. Kimball

Brecksville Cannery/Home Storage Center Information - Updated Nov. 2013

As of July 1st, 2013 the Cannery (Home Storage Center) only has prepackaged and bulk food items for sale. People no longer have the option to can their own items at the cannery, however the cannery does have 3 canners that people can check out for a week at a time to can their own items at home (or at a church activity). Many of the items previously available to be canned are still available, just in prepackaged or bulk form. but, to be sure they have the items you would like to order, you should call the cannery at 440-526-4057

If they only have an item in bulk, but you want a few cans, they may be able to help them if you give them enough notice. So, for example. They only have black beans in 25 lbs bags, but no one buys them. If someone wants 5 cans of black beans, they just need to give them a week's notice so the cannery people can put them in cans for them. You can email them your order form to brecksvillehomestorage@hotmail.com

You can call the cannery at 440-526-4057 to set up a Saturday appointment for yourself or to ask any questions. They are very friendly and helpful!

- Space and money saving
- Backyard Chickens
- What to plant and how to plan your garden
and much more! Be sure to check out the handouts from the class below and in the side bar under gardening! There are also many helpful website links to teach you about gardening in the sidebar.

·                     Handout - Back Yard Chickens
·                     Handout - Composting

·                     Handout - Seeds to Plant

If you know of any other good ones or have any knowledge or information to share, just email Emily at providentpreparation@gmail.com

Another gardening tip from a ward member, Adele Polley:
Being a Hairdresser I would save all the hair on one day of the week for my Grandparents, if you spread human hair the oils in the hair will keep animals away from your garden. It was great, after awhile a lot of people would come in and ask for hair.

I don't know if this is for gardening but if you spread moth balls around your yard, the outside of your yard it will keep skunks away.
